The verse states a fact before giving any command: kadih — everyone toils, believer and denier alike; life spares no one the sweat. Since the effort is compulsory and the meeting is certain, the only real question left is what all this exertion is purchasing at the destination.

Reflection

There is strange comfort in this verse for the weary: your exhaustion is not aimless — it is mileage on a road that ends in a meeting. The following verses split the travellers by what fills their hands on arrival: a record given in the right hand and an easy reckoning, or one given from behind the back. Same toil, different luggage.

Real-Life Application

Once a week, sort your exhaustion: list what drained you most, then mark each item — does this toil travel with me to the meeting, or does it expire at the grave? Shift one recurring effort from the expiring column to the travelling one.
