Cooperation in Good
Help one another — but only toward righteousness, never toward sin and aggression. Our alliances have a moral direction.
Qur'anic Reference · Al-Ma'idah 5:2
English Translation
“Cooperate in righteousness and piety, and do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And be mindful of Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.”
The moral, reflection, and application sections below are educational guidance inspired by the cited verse — they are not a translation or an authoritative tafsir.
Primary Moral
Lend your hands, money, and voice only to what is good — complicity in wrong is wrong.
Why This Matters
Almost nothing harmful in the world runs on one person; it runs on helpers, funders, forwarders, and silent approvers. This ayah makes each of us responsible not only for our deeds but for what our support makes possible.
Reflection
The verse assumes we will cooperate — humans always do — and asks only: in which direction? It dignifies teamwork for good as worship, and names assistance in wrongdoing as a sin of its own, even when our hands stay technically clean.
Real-Life Application
Audit what you amplify: the group projects, chat forwards, and purchases that carry your quiet endorsement. Withdraw from one that serves harm, and add your effort to one initiative doing clear good.
Reflection Question
Is there anything you currently help along — with money, shares, or silence — that you would not want written in your record?
Action for Today
Offer one concrete piece of help today to someone doing good work — time, skill, or support.
