The Loving Lord

Amid a surah of persecuted believers stands a name of God the persecutors never understood: Al-Wadud — the Most Loving.

Qur'anic Reference · Al-Buruj 85:14

وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الْوَدُودُ

English Translation

“And He is the Forgiving, the Most Loving.”

Bengali Translation

“আর তিনি পরম ক্ষমাশীল, অতিশয় প্রেমময়।”

The moral, reflection, and application sections below are educational guidance inspired by the cited verse — they are not a translation or an authoritative tafsir.

Primary Moral

Worship Allah out of love, not only fear — He introduces Himself as Al-Wadud.

Why This Matters

Many carry a picture of God assembled only from warnings, and their worship grows cold and grudging. This verse repaints the portrait: pardon and love placed side by side — a Lord who not only overlooks the past but actively loves those who return to Him.

Reflection

The pairing is deliberate: Ghafur clears the record, Wadud fills it with warmth — forgiveness without love would be a cold acquittal, and wadd in Arabic is love that shows itself in acts. The surah's context sharpens it: revealed around believers burned in a trench for their faith, it insists that behind the visible cruelty of men stands a Lord whose deepest nature is love — and that His beloveds' suffering is seen, recorded, and repaid.

Real-Life Application

Rebalance your inner picture of Allah this week: for every fear-based motive you notice, recall one sign of His love for you — a sin covered, a du'a answered, a hardship softened. Begin one du'a with 'Ya Wadud' and speak to Him as the Loving, not only the Judge.

Reflection Question

Is your obedience the duty owed to a distant authority, or the response of someone who knows he is loved?

Action for Today

Call upon Allah today by the name Al-Wadud, and thank Him for one specific mercy you never asked for.
