The Tranquil Soul
O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, pleased and pleasing — the destination every restless heart is secretly homesick for.

The moral, reflection, and application sections below are educational guidance inspired by the cited verse — they are not a translation or an authoritative tafsir.
Primary Moral
Make tranquility your life's project — train the soul now that will be called home gently then.
Why This Matters
This is the tenderest address in the Qur'an — spoken at death and on the Day of Rising to the soul that reached mutma'innah, settledness with Allah. The same surah shows its opposite: hearts that measured worth by wealth and honour by gifts, forever agitated. The call tells us what the whole journey was for.
Reflection
Radiyah mardiyyah is a mutual contentment: the soul pleased with what its Lord decreed, and the Lord pleased with how the soul received it. Tranquility, then, is not a temperament some are born with; it is the slow fruit of remembrance, surrender to qadar, and sins repented before they harden. The address is in the feminine singular, whispered like a welcome — the door of the Hereafter opening as a homecoming.
Real-Life Application
Work backwards from the destination: each practice that steadies your heart — unrushed prayer, dhikr, contentment with decree — is a brick of the mutma'innah soul, so lay one daily. When agitation strikes, ask its source: a delayed dunya, or a neglected connection with the One this soul belongs to?
Reflection Question
If that call were made today, how far is your soul's current state from 'pleased and pleasing' — and what is the nearest next brick?
Action for Today
Pray one prayer today with no clock in mind — and end it by telling Allah you are pleased with Him as Lord.
