Remind, Don't Control
So remind — you are only a reminder; you are not a warden over them. The job description of everyone who calls to good.
Qur'anic Reference · Al-Ghashiyah 88:21–22
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
English Translation
“So remind — you are only one who reminds; you are not a controller over them.”
Bengali Translation
“সুতরাং তুমি উপদেশ দাও — তুমি তো একজন উপদেশদাতা মাত্র; তুমি তাদের ওপর কোনো জবরদস্তিকারী নও।”
The moral, reflection, and application sections below are educational guidance inspired by the cited verse — they are not a translation or an authoritative tafsir.
Primary Moral
Deliver the truth beautifully, then release the outcome — hearts are opened by Allah, not by pressure.
Why This Matters
Parents nag children away from the very deen they wanted for them; friends turn advice into siege. The failure is usually not the message but the confusion of roles: taking over the guidance department, which was never delegated to us. These verses return the mandate to its true size — remind, and step back.
Reflection
If even the Messenger ﷺ — with revelation on his tongue — was told 'you are not a musaytir', our claim to control anyone's heart collapses completely. The division of labour is merciful in both directions: the caller is freed from carrying results he cannot produce, and the called is freed from a religion of coercion, which produces only actors. Reminders water the seed; only Allah splits it open.
Real-Life Application
With the person you most want to guide, change the strategy: say it once, say it well, then serve them, pray for them at night, and stop auditing their response. Replace the tenth lecture with the first sincere tahajjud du'a in their name.
Reflection Question
Is there someone your repeated pressure has pushed further away — and what would 'remind once, then du'a' look like with them?
Action for Today
Give one gentle reminder today — a verse, a sentence, an example — and then deliberately leave the rest to Allah.
