Returning to Allah
The Qur'an's most hope-filled address: O My servants who have wronged themselves — do not despair, Allah forgives all sins.
Qur'anic Reference · Az-Zumar 39:53
English Translation
“Say: O My servants who have transgressed against themselves! Do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins; indeed, He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.”
The moral, reflection, and application sections below are educational guidance inspired by the cited verse — they are not a translation or an authoritative tafsir.
Primary Moral
No sin outweighs Allah's mercy — the door back is always open.
Why This Matters
Shame convinces sinners they are beyond repair, and that belief — not the sin — is what keeps them away. This ayah dismantles the lie at its root: even those who transgressed are still addressed as 'My servants'.
Reflection
Scholars have long called this the most hopeful verse in the Qur'an. Every word widens the door: 'My servants' — you still belong to Him; 'all sins' — no exception is listed; 'do not despair' — hopelessness itself is what is forbidden. The prodigal is not merely tolerated on return; he is invited by name.
Real-Life Application
Name the sin you believe defines you, and take it to Allah tonight in two rak'ahs of tawbah — plainly, without rehearsed excuses. Then act like a forgiven person: return to the good deed the shame was blocking.
Reflection Question
What would you start doing tomorrow if you fully believed you were already forgiven?
Action for Today
Make sincere istighfar tonight for the one thing you have never brought to Allah.
