Tenderness Within
The companions of the Prophet ﷺ are described in one breath: firm where firmness is due, and tender among themselves.
Qur'anic Reference · Al-Fath 48:29
مُّحَمَّدٌ رَّسُولُ اللَّهِ ۚ وَالَّذِينَ مَعَهُ أَشِدَّاءُ عَلَى الْكُفَّارِ رُحَمَاءُ بَيْنَهُمْ
English Translation
“Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those with him are firm against the disbelievers, compassionate among themselves.”
Bengali Translation
“মুহাম্মাদ আল্লাহর রাসুল; আর তাঁর সঙ্গীরা অবিশ্বাসীদের প্রতি কঠোর, নিজেদের মধ্যে পরস্পর সহানুভূতিশীল।”
The moral, reflection, and application sections below are educational guidance inspired by the cited verse — they are not a translation or an authoritative tafsir.
Primary Moral
Save your hardness for hostility — inside your own circle, be soft.
Why This Matters
Many people get this exactly backwards: polite to strangers and adversaries, harsh with family and their own community. The verse defines spiritual maturity as knowing which face belongs where — and warmth belongs at home first.
Reflection
Firmness and tenderness are not opposite temperaments but two settings of one strong character — the same companions who stood unmoved in battle melted with mercy for each other. A community is measured less by how it faces its opponents than by how its members treat one another when no opponent is watching.
Real-Life Application
Compare your two tones today: the customer-service voice you give outsiders and the clipped one you give family. Close the gap in your family's favour — greet them, thank them, soften with them the way you would with a guest.
Reflection Question
Who inside your closest circle receives a colder version of you than strangers do — and why have they earned less?
Action for Today
Show one family member or close friend today the same courtesy you reserve for important strangers.
