Forgiveness

Choosing pardon over payback — the Qur'an's three-part counsel to hold to forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant.

English Translation

“Hold to forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant.”

Bengali Translation

“ক্ষমা অবলম্বন করো, সৎকাজের নির্দেশ দাও এবং অজ্ঞদের এড়িয়ে চলো।”

The moral, reflection, and application sections below are educational guidance inspired by the cited verse — they are not a translation or an authoritative tafsir.

Primary Moral

Make pardon your default posture toward people's faults.

Why This Matters

Grudges tax the one who carries them far more than the one who caused them. A community where pardon is the norm recovers from friction quickly; one where every slight is prosecuted never knows peace.

Reflection

Three commands in a single breath form a complete ethic for dealing with people. 'Hold to forgiveness' — make pardon your default posture, not a rare exception. 'Enjoin what is good' — forgiveness does not mean silence about what is right. 'Turn away from the ignorant' — not every provocation deserves your energy. Dignity, kindness, and boundaries, all in one ayah.

Real-Life Application

Think of one person whose small offence you have been replaying. Today, deliberately let it go — no announcement needed. And when someone provokes you online or in person, practise the third command: simply do not engage.

Reflection Question

Whose forgiveness are you hoping for from Allah — and is anyone hoping for the same from you?

Action for Today

Release one old grievance silently today, and make du'a for the person who caused it.
