Forgiveness at Home
Even within family there are trials — yet if you pardon, overlook, and forgive, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
Qur'anic Reference · At-Taghabun 64:14
English Translation
“O you who believe! Indeed, among your spouses and your children are enemies to you, so beware of them. But if you pardon, overlook, and forgive — then indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.”
The moral, reflection, and application sections below are educational guidance inspired by the cited verse — they are not a translation or an authoritative tafsir.
Primary Moral
Family will sometimes wound you — answer with the triple mercy: pardon, overlook, forgive.
Why This Matters
The deepest cuts come from the nearest hands — a spouse's word, a child's ingratitude — and homes collapse not from one blow but from kept scores. The verse is honest about family trials, then stacks three verbs of release, because household peace needs forgiveness applied in layers.
Reflection
The 'enmity' here is rarely hatred — it is when loved ones' demands pull against Allah's path, or when closeness gives their words unmatched power to hurt. The verse counsels vigilance without bitterness, then a ladder of grace: afw drops the claim, safh turns the page, ghufran covers it over. And the closing names our stake: forgive as you hope to be forgiven.
Real-Life Application
Choose the family member whose small offences you tally most carefully, and delete the ledger this week: no reciting old wrongs in new arguments. When the next slight comes, walk the verse's ladder in order — let it go, move past it, cover it.
Reflection Question
Which relative's forgiveness file is thickest in your memory — and what has keeping it earned you so far?
Action for Today
Forgive one family member today for something specific — silently and completely, with no announcement.
