Spouses are created for sakinah — tranquility — with mawaddah and rahmah placed between them by Allah Himself.
Qur'anic Reference \u00b7 Ar-Rum 30:21
وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ أَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا لِّتَسْكُنُوا إِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُم مَّوَدَّةً وَرَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
English Translation
\u201cAnd among His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves, that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed, in that are signs for people who reflect.\u201d
Bengali Translation
\u201cআর তাঁর নিদর্শনসমূহের মধ্যে রয়েছে যে, তিনি তোমাদের জন্য তোমাদের মধ্য থেকেই সঙ্গী সৃষ্টি করেছেন, যেন তোমরা তাদের কাছে প্রশান্তি পাও; এবং তিনি তোমাদের মধ্যে ভালোবাসা ও মমতা স্থাপন করেছেন। নিশ্চয়ই এতে নিদর্শন রয়েছে চিন্তাশীল সম্প্রদায়ের জন্য।\u201d

Why This Matters
A marriage is the climate every other family duty grows in; when it turns cold, children, worship, and health all feel the frost. The ayah lists a loving home among the signs of Allah — alongside the heavens and the earth.
Reflection
Mawaddah is the warm, expressed love of early days; rahmah is the mercy that carries a couple when warmth is tested by illness, stress, and years. Allah placed both between spouses — but placement is a seed, not a harvest. Homes where these are watered daily become the tranquility the verse describes.
Real-Life Application
Do one deliberate act of mawaddah today — an appreciation spoken aloud, a favourite meal, ten minutes of full attention — and one act of rahmah: overlook a flaw without comment.
