Choosing Your Path
That Day is the truth — so whoever wills may take a path of return to his Lord. The destination is fixed; the road is your choice.
Qur'anic Reference · An-Naba 78:39
ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ مَآبًا
English Translation
“That is the True Day; so whoever wills may take a path of return to his Lord.”
Bengali Translation
“সেই দিনটিই সত্য; সুতরাং যে ইচ্ছা করে, সে তার প্রতিপালকের দিকে ফেরার পথ অবলম্বন করুক।”
The moral, reflection, and application sections below are educational guidance inspired by the cited verse — they are not a translation or an authoritative tafsir.
Primary Moral
The meeting with Allah is certain — the only open question is the condition you choose to arrive in.
Why This Matters
The surah opens with people disputing 'the Great News' as though debate could postpone it; this verse closes the argument — the Day is haqq, settled fact. What remains negotiable is us: fa-man sha'a, whoever wills. Between a fixed appointment and a free will lies the entire moral life.
Reflection
Notice the word ma'ab — a place of return, not a destination reached for the first time. The path back to Allah is not exotic; it is prayer kept, wrongs repaired, tawbah renewed. And the invitation is startlingly undemanding: 'whoever wills' — the door stands open, and the only bouncer is our own reluctance.
Real-Life Application
Stop treating the biggest decision of existence as something to drift into. Choose your path explicitly this week: write one sentence — 'I am returning to Allah by …' — and fill it with a concrete practice you will keep.
Reflection Question
If the appointment is certain and the road is yours to pick, which direction are your current habits actually walking you?
Action for Today
Take one deliberate step of return today — a prayer prayed early, a debt of apology paid, a tawbah spoken aloud.
