Steadfastness
Stand firm as you were commanded — istiqamah is the unglamorous heroism of staying on the path, day after ordinary day.
Qur'anic Reference · Hud 11:112
فَاسْتَقِمْ كَمَا أُمِرْتَ وَمَن تَابَ مَعَكَ وَلَا تَطْغَوْا ۚ إِنَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ
English Translation
“So stand firm as you have been commanded, you and those who turn to Allah with you, and do not transgress. Indeed, He sees all that you do.”
Bengali Translation
“সুতরাং তুমি যেমন আদেশপ্রাপ্ত হয়েছ তেমনি অবিচল থাকো, এবং তোমার সঙ্গে যারা তওবা করেছে তারাও; আর সীমালঙ্ঘন কোরো না। নিশ্চয়ই তোমরা যা করো তিনি তা দেখেন।”
The moral, reflection, and application sections below are educational guidance inspired by the cited verse — they are not a translation or an authoritative tafsir.
Primary Moral
Consistency on the straight path outweighs bursts of enthusiasm that fade.
Why This Matters
Anyone can be righteous for a week; lives are shaped by what we sustain. Istiqamah — steady uprightness — is what turns good intentions into character, and character into a destination.
Reflection
It is reported that this command weighed heavily on the Prophet ﷺ — steadfastness is genuinely hard. The ayah balances it in both directions: do not fall away, but also do not transgress by overshooting into extremes. And it is communal — 'those who turn to Allah with you' — because no one stays upright entirely alone.
Real-Life Application
Pick one small practice — a prayer on time, a page of Qur'an, a daily kindness — and protect it for thirty days at a size too small to skip. Depth comes later; first win the habit of not stopping.
Reflection Question
Which good habit have you restarted the most times — and what usually breaks it?
Action for Today
Do today's portion of one committed habit — even if it is the smallest possible version.
