Inner Calm
Man was created anxious — panicking at harm, clutching at good — except those who pray. The Qur'an's diagnosis of restlessness, and its cure.
Qur'anic Reference · Al-Ma'arij 70:19–22
English Translation
“Indeed, man was created anxious: distressed when evil touches him, and withholding when good touches him — except those who pray.”
Bengali Translation
“নিশ্চয়ই মানুষ সৃষ্টি হয়েছে অস্থিরচিত্তরূপে: যখন বিপদ স্পর্শ করে তখন সে হা-হুতাশ করে, আর যখন কল্যাণ স্পর্শ করে তখন কৃপণ হয়ে যায় — তবে সালাত আদায়কারীরা ব্যতীত।”
The moral, reflection, and application sections below are educational guidance inspired by the cited verse — they are not a translation or an authoritative tafsir.
Primary Moral
Anxiety is factory-installed — prayer is the maintenance that keeps it from running your life.
Why This Matters
The Qur'an names our condition without shame: halu' — jumpy in loss, stingy in gain — is the default human setting, not a personal defect. That honesty matters, because the exception clause is an open door: the calm we envy in others is not a temperament we missed but a practice we can begin.
Reflection
The exception is 'those who pray' — and the following verses specify: those constant in their prayer. Five daily anchors interrupt the anxiety spiral before it compounds; each prostration physically rehearses handing the burden over. Prayer does not delete life's alarms; it re-sizes them next to the One prayed to.
Real-Life Application
Treat your five prayers as scheduled anxiety treatment: arrive early, slow the recitation, and unload the specific worry of the hour in sujud. When panic strikes between prayers, pray two rak'ahs on the spot — the Prophet ﷺ turned to prayer whenever a matter distressed him.
Reflection Question
When worry grips you, is prayer your first response or your last resort — and what does that order reveal?
Action for Today
In each prayer today, name your current worry silently in sujud and leave it there before rising.
