وَمَا أُمِرُوا إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ حُنَفَاءَ وَيُقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَيُؤْتُوا الزَّكَاةَ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ دِينُ الْقَيِّمَةِ

When religion feels tangled, return to its core: sincerity to Allah, prayer standing, wealth purified.
People drown religion in accretions — sectarian feuds, inherited customs, performative complexity — until the simple becomes unrecognisable and seekers walk away exhausted. The verse's restrictive grammar, 'they were commanded only', is a machete through the overgrowth: the trunk of the upright religion has three rings, and everything sound grows from them.
The three anchors map the whole person: ikhlas orders the heart's loyalty, salah structures the body's day, zakah disciplines the hand's wealth — creed, time, and money, the three things people guard most, each surrendered. Hunafa' adds the posture: leaning away from every crookedness toward the One, as Ibrahim did. Simplicity here is not shallowness; a lifetime is short for perfecting three commands.
Run a back-to-core month: audit your religious energy and redirect whatever feeds debate or display into the three anchors — one act of shirk-free intention checked daily, one prayer upgraded from performed to established, one zakah or sadaqah calculated honestly. Let the core be excellent before the branches multiply.
