Integrity When Unseen
Over you stand guardians — noble scribes who know whatever you do. Character is what the recorders see when no person does.
Qur'anic Reference · Al-Infitar 82:10–12
وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ لَحَافِظِينَ كِرَامًا كَاتِبِينَ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ
English Translation
“And indeed, over you are keepers — noble recording scribes — who know whatever you do.”
Bengali Translation
“আর নিশ্চয়ই তোমাদের ওপর নিযুক্ত রয়েছেন তত্ত্বাবধায়কগণ — সম্মানিত লেখকবৃন্দ — তোমরা যা করো তারা তা জানেন।”
The moral, reflection, and application sections below are educational guidance inspired by the cited verse — they are not a translation or an authoritative tafsir.
Primary Moral
Be in private what you are in public — the audience never actually leaves.
Why This Matters
Every ethics system struggles with the unwatched moment — the empty office, the anonymous account, the hotel room abroad. These verses dissolve the category: there is no unwatched moment, and the watchers are not spies but kiraman, honoured scribes whose presence dignifies rather than menaces.
Reflection
The scribes' nobility carries a quiet appeal: honoured company deserves conduct worth recording. The salaf would feel shy before their two angels the way one feels shy before a respected guest — a shyness that reformed the private life first, since hypocrisy is simply integrity that performs only for human eyes.
Real-Life Application
Find your integrity gap: the behaviour that changes when the door closes or the account is anonymous. Close it this week by doing one right thing in total secrecy and refusing one wrong thing no human would ever have discovered.
Reflection Question
What would change in your browsing, spending, or speech tonight if you could see the two scribes writing?
Action for Today
Do one deed today intended solely for the heavenly record — no witness, no mention, ever.
